Originally established as
Tatanagar Chemicals Limited and later rebranded as “Chemico”
under the umbrella of Tata Iron & Steel Company Ltd. (TISCO) in
1937, the factory underwent a significant transformation when
its was taken over by the Tata Iron & Steel Company Limited
(TISCO). Renamed “Chemico”, the factory expanded its operations
in 1958 to include the manufacturing of Sodium and Potassium
Ferro-cyanide by utilizing Cyanide Sludge from Tata Steel’s coke
oven gas washing paint.
In the 1980s, Indian Tube Co. Ltd.
merged with TISCO, leading to Cyanides & Pigments Ltd. becoming
a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Steel. Subsequently, in 1985,
the company underwent another name change, rebranding form
Cyanides & Pigments limited to TATA PIGMENTS LIMITED. Soon
after, the company started its production of paints in 2000s to
expand the business.
