Putty is applied on the paintable surface before the final paint is applied. Surface should be free from loose paint, dust or grease or existing paint. The surface is prepared by scrubbing with wire Brush or Sand/Emery Paper No. 150/180 to ensure it is clean and smooth. Thereafter two coats of putty are applied on the wall. Putty is a kind of paste prepared for applying on walls to fill in any minor dents or to level the surface.

Since putty is absorbent, a coat of paint applied directly over it would lead to the paint being absorbed unevenly, leading to patches. A primer layer on top of the putty is a must. It ensures that the paint adhesion to the surface is proper, enhances the durability of paint, and imparts extra safety to the surface being painted. It takes away the unevenness caused by putty and the final paint comes out perfect. If suitably applied, primers will enhance the life of the paint and also improve its appearance.

The pre-painting procedure includes the following steps: 1) Check surface for dampness or water seepage. Any water seepage problem should be fixed at source. This may involve repairing leaking plumbing or cracks in the exterior walls. 3) Check the surface for loose plaster, dust or grease. It is recommended to use intense wire brushing or high-speed water jet for thorough cleaning. 4) Prepare the surface for painting by g with wire Brush or Sand/Emery Paper No. 150/180 to ensure the surface is clean and smooth

Paints are mainly categorized depending on their main formulation which gives us oil-based paints and water-based paints. These two types of paints are further divided into different types of paints that are formulated as per the uses of the paint, and the various needs and requirements of the walls.

Ideally, exterior painting is not recommended while it’s raining. As each coat of exterior paint requires 24 hours for the paint film to get completely cured. Therefore, it is not recommended to paint while it’s raining. There are chances that the paint film may wash away.

It should be used within 24 hrs.

Any paint stains should be wiped off immediately. Enamel paint stains require thinner for cleaning.

You need to allow a curing period of 45 days for exteriors, and 3-6 months for interiors.

Curing period means the walls should be left bare. This is because the paint should not react with the chemical present in the cement.

The curing period for re-plastered wall surface is 7-14 days (for plaster thickness up to 7-10 millimeter).

Since the construction is new, it is necessary to check the alkalinity of the plastered surface. The same can be checked using ph. paper. If the alkalinity is more than 12 then do not paint, wait for some time. If alkalinity is between 8-11, then painting work can begin using recommended painting system. Ensure proper treatment of surface before paint application. Two coats of putty and two coats of primer should be applied for smooth finish and long life of paint.

Depending on the condition of the walls and the color of previous paint, 2 to 3 coats should be applied.

Cement paint is made by adding some additives to white cement. It is mainly white or colored cement. It is used as coating normally for exterior side of building and is economical option to emulsion paints.

Some differences between emulsion paints and distemper are that emulsion paints give a smooth finish to your walls, and are more long lasting, Emulsion paints are also available in a wider range of shades to choose from. Distemper is economical option for interior walls as compared to emulsion paints.

The main reasons of paint failure after application on surface are the applicator’s skill level and improper treatment of surface.

The budget provided by Paint Budget Calculator is just an estimation of costs and there would be variations depending on city, location and surface condition.

Mix any Tata floor colour and standard (ISI mark) quality cement (white, grey or mixture of the two) in the ratio of 1:4 or 1:5 depending on the depth of the colour. Ensure thorough mixing of the two in dry state by rubbing the mixture with both hands to eliminate the occurrence of patches and also to produce a smooth and uniform finish. Add water slowly with simultaneous mixing. Water addition must be controlled to have just sufficient consistency in the mass required for troweling. After final finishing allow it to cure for a day. On the second day pour clean water on the finished floor to have a column of 2 mm of water to stand for 3 days. After curing of the floor, it can be regularly buffed with cotton cloth and water or by using polishing stone to have smooth and shining surface.
